The Silver Globe

A shrill scream rang through the air. "Aug! It's a dragon!"

A few weeks earlier, Jack had found an odd silver globe. He stared into its depths, seeing his hazel eyes, as if in a mirror. He tried to lift it, but it was too heavy. Flicking back his blonde hair, he went to tell his parents. When he told them, they just laughed it off and said, "Nice imagination son. Make some imaginary scientists to study it too."

Jack went outside to study and crack open the globe. His parents frowned upon weird things, so they were no help. Over the days he used hammers, saws, and parts of his body to no success (but some pain). When his parents lit a fire in the living room (something they didn't do often, because there was no sufficient source of firewood) Jack was fed up with the globe. He tossed it into the flames.

The next morning when Jack awoke, he groggily sat up, grabbed a book, and trudged down stairs to the living room. A shrill scream rang through the air. "Aug! It's a dragon!". Sitting in the fireplace, looking contented, was a baby dragon.

Three thoughts ran through Jack's head, run and tell his parents, keep it, and dispose of it. It looked too cute to dispose of, and his parents frowned upon strange things, so he had to hide it. Jack scooped its brown leathery body into his hand. Its little wings started to beat, but they were too small to work. THere were some bumps on its tail that probably would develop into spikes. Jack hid the dragon in his bedroom.

Jack didn't know what to feed the dragon. He tried slipping it some meat from his dinner, but the dragon turned up his nose. Jack thought the dragon might starve if he wasn't fed soon.

The dragon got thinner and sadder as the days progressed, and finally stopped moving. His family lit a fire that night. Jack tossed the body of the dragon into the fire, sorrow and tears welling up inside him. All of a sudden, some extra movement occurred in the fire. He peered closely and saw the dragon leaping about, gobbling up the flames.
